In the recording studio for orchestral sounds

Amy Langley, a talented strings arranger, plays a major part in many projects, namely 'Dirty Pretty Strings', & ELO. Having known Amy for quite some time, I was honoured when she asked if I would document the recording session for Sophie Ellis Bextor’s next album at RAK Studios in London. Never passing up an opportunity to photograph in such a prestigious venue, I obliged and attended the session, only to run into esteemed producer, Ed Harcourt, who was also in the studio working on the album as producer.

I wanted to experience the authenticity of the recording process, to capture the artists in their environment mastering their craft with a candid approach. With the Fujifilm cameras’ silent shooting mode, I was able to work in the live recording session without interrupting the musicians, which was a big bonus. It was an enormous honour to be there working alongside them, as it isn’t often an audience of one is given the opportunity to watch a world class orchestral performance of music that hasn’t yet been released!
